Can I import my collection information into your
software?
The software can import collection
data from delimited files, which most applications
are able to create.
A delimited file simply lists the various details
of a title separated (delimited) by a character
such as a comma:
"Great Expectations", "Charles Dickens", "Penguin
Books"
"Tempest", "William Shakespeare", "Simon & Schuster"
Can I export collection data from your software
to other programs?
The software can also create export
files in a delimited file format which can be read
by 3rd party software.
Can I use
a barcode scanner?
Library Express is compatible with
any "keyboard wedge" style scanner.
This type of scanner works by using an adapter to
plug both the keyboard and scanner into the keyboard
port at the same time.
Any screen you would normally enter a code number
will accept scanned input. Additionally, Book Collection
will automatically detect and convert UPC barcode
numbers into ISBN numbers.
You can also import a list of scanned barcodes from
file into the internet query feature to catalog
your collection in batches.
There are, of course, a very wide range of devices
available, for example the "Microvision
ROV" Scanner has its own onboard memory,
so you can leave your desk with it and scan barcodes
in batches. The next time you connect it to your
desktop all the codes will be downloaded. You can
read more on their website
here.
For collectors on a budget, the "CueCat"
models of scanners are basic but affordable, and
can be found on auction sites, such as
ebay.
How can I catalog my collection automatically using
the internet?
Library Express can search online
catalogs, comprising many millions of records, for
all types of items in your collection. Importing
these details into your database you can vastly
reduce the work required in cataloging. Searches
can be run by using title, artist name or by scanning
the barcodes on your items. Search can be run in
batches and in the background too, so you can continue
to use the software without interruption.
Can I share access to the database across a network?
The professional and community allow
for the software to be accessed by multiple machines
across a network.
Library Express uses the industry standard Microsoft
SQL Server database engine and so offers fast, secure
and reliable performance.
Are there any additional help resources available?
The software includes an illustrated help file containing
detailed walkthroughs covering a wide range of topics. |
